Welcome to new United Reformed minister Sarah Moore

This item was posted a while ago, on 1 May 2005.

At the end of January 2005, the Darwen Churches Partnership saw the arrival of Sarah Moore as the new URC Minister in Darwen. Sarah was ordained and welcomed to the team on Saturday 29th January in St. James’ Church, Over Darwen. The church filled to capacity, including Sarah’s parents and friends from the London area, along with friends from Westminster College Cambridge, where Sarah trained. All the partnership churches were represented, and a team of people from St. James’ Over Darwen arranged a splendid buffet in the church primary school following the service. We were privileged to have Janet Anderson, MP for Darwen, in the congregation, along with the Mayor and Mayoress of Blackburn with Darwen B.C.

Sarah comes from Croydon, where her parents live. She has a brother in the Royal Navy who, unfortunately, could not get time off to attend the service. Sarah is new to the north. Her first impressions of the hospitality and friendship are good. Sarah’s interests include cooking, walking and travelling; she is looking forward to exploring the local countryside and has a number of willing volunteers to point her in the right direction. A number of us are more than ready and willing to show her the delights of the Lake District!

Do pray for Sarah in this, her first appointment. Pray for stamina, friendship, clarity of direction and the ability to prioritise amidst the many demands that will be made upon her time. Sarah has friends in Manchester and Liverpool, who are not too far away. Pray that, as she gets to know the team, she will make friends within it, which will offer practical and spiritual support.

As I was writing this article, a letter dropped on the mat. It was an invitation to a wedding in May, from Marina, one of the German students who spent time in Blackburn during the summer of 2002. I look forward eagerly to attending, and will enclose a photograph of the wedding in a future news article!
